Several years ago, Sofia’s aunt Vanessa discovered a word that, if one were feeling generous, might be used to describe a certain physical attribute shared by many in the Vanderpool family: callipygous. To Greek readers, I'm pretty sure the meaning of the word (from καλλίπυγος) is obvious. But for the rest of you unfamiliar with the term, Merriam-Webster defines it as “having shapely buttocks.” Put more bluntly (and accurately), we Vanderpools tend to have big butts.
When Sofia was born, it was clear to everyone that “The Hybrid” skewed heavily toward the Alex- side of the Alexanderpool duo. From head to toe, she was the spitting image of Panagiota. There was one feature, though, that Panagiota readily – gleefully, even – admitted was Lee’s contribution to their infant daughter’s physique: her booty. Going back over their blog, you can see that little Sofia’s proportionally plentiful posterior was the subject of more than a few conversations between Panagiota and Lee.
On Sofia’s first birthday, Ariel and I went over to the Alexanderpool apartment to watch Sofia smear chocolate cake all over her face. After a sufficient mess was made in the kitchen, everyone moved to the living room to watch the birthday girl play with her new presents. As Sofia crawled around the room, the four of us started laughing at the sight of her wiggling booty, made all the bigger by her hefty diaper. That’s when Panagiota got an idea. She grabbed two rings from a stacking toy, stuffed them down Sofia’s pants and, cracking up, announced that this was what her daughter could look forward to in the years to come thanks to her Vander-behind.

To be fair to Sofia, those diapers WERE enormous. Pegs wanted to use a non-disposable, environmentally-friendly kind with huge cloth inserts; even dry they weighed a good 18 pounds. It's a miracle that Sofia was able to crawl.
That's why she has such strong legs today.
Also, to be fair to Sofia, her booty is much smaller now than it was when she was a baby. I'm suddenly imagining 14 year old Sofia reading this blog and being horrified. Sorry, future Sofia!
